FOREST AND WOODLAND POLICY



1) Cease forthwith all logging, thinning and woodchipping in WA State forests and woodlands.
2) Cease forthwith conversion of native forests to plantations.
3) Create economic incentives for farmland re-afforestation augmented with Department of Agriculture style extension service.
4) Establish National and regional parks to protect all remaining State native forests and woodlands.
5) Comprehensively survey and catalogue flora and fauna in State native forests and woodlands.
6) Re-orient management and research from ‘silviculture” to “restoration of ecosystems.”
7)  Independently and scientifically, review forest fuel reduction by prescribed burning and manage to maximise the benefit to native forest and woodland ecology.
8) Withdraw recognition and use of Australian Forestry Standard (AFS) certification and support and use only Forest Stewardship Council certification of timber produced or acquired by State agencies.
9) Promote recycled, high quality paper manufacturing industries in Australia.
10) Co-operate with other relevant NGOs on native forest issues
